Help Wanted - Production Manager

Posted by rotidua at 04:48 AM on October 3, 2005.

The topic is err....two pronged actually...

One is the state I am in. I actually needed serious help in my job. Of all the years I've been working, I rarely needed or feel like I need any help. If any of my subordinates, or even my bosses could not cope or do any of their job, I will step in and do it for them.

And I have always delivered the results according to the deadline. No matter at what cost.

But now, with this new project that I am currently working on. I would really prefer if someone could take over my task. Not that I'm jaded or cannot do it, but then the price of completing the task would be immense that it would seriously deteriorate the scant time that I'm spending with my family at the mo'

Flashback a bit - I am now the Production Manager for this gameshow on local TV. The nature of the game show demands that it is shown live-on-air. Thus, the demand for perfection for each show is a compulsory. This game show airs 6 days a week, for at least another year. When does the show goes on air? 1am in the morning, for an hour.

And, what is more..for Ramadhan, we'll be doing extra work. Not an hour show anymore, but three hours on a stretch. So that means we will be on air from 1am to 4am everyday. Kiss your sahur at home goodbye buddy..haha!

And it does not stop there. Rapid expansion to the company spells new projects. We have secured airtimes in China about a month ago. And it is scheduled to start..err..tommorow.

Now since the cost to connect a direct live-feed into China would be too huge for a smal company like ours, we have decided to make a pre-recorded show (no need to explain the mechanics lah...it will confuse you people..heck, even I get confused by it sometimes).

So, we need to record the episodes for the China TV stations. Fine by me, only it is starting on the first day of Ramadhan! And we need to record four episodes of an hour show per day.

And we still have ANOTHER daily morning show (which I was pulled out from, thank god) running in the studio as well. So we could only start recording after 12pm.

So the schedule goes - 12pm, everybody prepares the recording itinerary. 1pm, we start recording. Barring any mistakes or retakes it will finish at 6 or 7 pm. Then I will need to take care of the live show at 1am until 4am.

Repeat, cycle and rinse.

Die standing. Thank you.

So, if you know anyone who has TV/Video/Multi-Camera Production background who would like to start a career in a fledgling company that pays..err...reasonably, preferably Production Manager or a Producer (Production Assistants would be nice as well), please please do tell me. I have enough of the evil-eye coming from my wife as it is already.

Ooohh...if the person is Chinese would be nice too...because currently all of our mid-management people are Malays, so it could get sticky during Hari Raya, you know what I mean?

Doa Hari – 1

Ya Allah! Jadikanlah Puasa Ku Sebagai Puasa Orang-Orang Yang Benar-Benar Berpuasa. Dan Ibadah Malam Ku Sebagai Ibadah Orang-Orang Yang Benar-Benar Melakukan Ibadah Malam. Dan Jagalah Aku Dan Tidurnya. Hapuskanlah Dosa Ku . Wahai Tuhan Sekalian Alam! Dan Ampunilah Aku, Wahai Pengampun Para Pembuat Dosa.

Ramadhan this year is gonna be different. First, if you read mokciknab's, my mother-in-law is performing Umrah thf whole month. My parents are in Melaka taking care of Nek. They won't be back for Raya. Guess that's where we will be this Raya. My husband, err he's at work even as  I typed. I'm not complaining la sayang, really! *sulk*.

So today, on the first day of Ramadhan, I was alone during Iftar. Even my Helper was not with me. These days Naim been very very demanding. (No, I am not grumbling!).

Doa Hari-2

It has been 2 months since i used Mac. OS X is simply amazing and yupp now i understand why single button mouse is better than the usual. Only thing is, I am one of few people in the company that's using Mac. So each time I drag this Book for presentation I can still hear "oooo" and "aaaa" from the floor especially when i opened up Dictionary from Dashboard *ehem*. Last presentation however, I could not enlarge my word document screen. Drag la macammana pun, dia takat tu jugak. Nobody came to help coz they err don't know. Our Dr Mac is on leave until end of the year. The joke was on me. "Go sign up for the class la", "Tak compatible la" bla bla bla. Alas, the presentation was transferred to a Compaq or was it HP? Huh, gone maaan, my reputation.

Flickr is not friendly with Mac. So does Tabulas. Hmmm..how?

Juicy cheesy burger is perfecto after terawikh or for late supper kan.

3rd Ramadhan

Posted by rotidua at 12:52 AM on October 7, 2005.

Today, for the first time in my working life, i went to pasar before i go to work. Got myself chickens and meat and vegies to stock over the weekend, hopefully to last till next week. Bought some fish too. I made Abg Gemok, the fish monger to recommend me a few. I name a dish, he named the fish. heheh

'Kalau nak bakar ikan apa bang?'
'Ikan Terubuk la sedap, lemak!'
'Ikan terubuk bukan yang banyak tulang tu ker?'

He pointed another fish. 'Ikan ni pun sedap jugak kalau bakar'. 'Err..ikan apa ni?'. He looked at me and after a while he replied 'ikan kembong'. Oooo okay. Ikan kembung it is!

'Ikan jenak ni Dik, kalau buat masak asam pedas..sedap!'

Huh? Masak Asam Pedas.... Mak!  Uwaaaa.....i miss my mother!!

Can you tell me the difference between 'will be provided' and 'is now available' ? (Specifically refers to children's concert on VCD).

Allah Maha Besar - Doa termakbul

Posted by rotidua at 05:48 AM on October 10, 2005.

I just came back from a day-trip to Melaka. My company is planning for a Family Day this coming December and Melaka Watercity Resort in Bukit Katil is on top of the list. The place is OKAY, apartment like surrounded with man-made lake. Man-made seriously! (I have no idea how they combat dengue). 2 kiddy pool, go kart, fishing, futsal (yeah right as if i wannah) and other indoor/outdoor activities.

Anyway, what more important is, I managed to coax my colleague to detour to Pernu - Jumpa Mak! Super yayness. Guess what i brought back home..

......

......

Kuah Masak Asam Pedas Ikan Sembilang yaaaayyyyy happy for me, Bert? Alhamdulillah. Dok teringat je. I'll think of ALL of you while iftar nanti, I promise.

And....

Kuih Puteri Mandi! my all time fav!

*ehem*

Mak tapau the kuih for my colleagues too. I'll still think of YOU when i stuff my face with juicy sembilang and puteri mandi later, I promise.

Miss us?

Posted by rotidua at 10:08 PM on October 18, 2005.

Balik Kampung!

Last weekend, Firhad finally got one day leave. So off to Melaka we went (major points to Kak Lisa!). In short, these are the things we did/had:

Slept more than 4 hours during daytime. Heaven!

Let the kids played on the beach, in the rain.

Had Asam Pedas Daging and Masak Lemak Ketam on the first day, among other things.

And kupang masak dunno, Lemak Nangka and Ayam Masak Merah the next day. Heh heh.

Mak took me to a Cambodian shop where Baju Kurung and Baju Melayu are sold at RM40-RM65 per pair. Per Pair ye orang Kolumpo! Jahitan pun cantik. Good thing I don't have lots of money, aye.

Found out that my parents been buying drinking water from vending machine. RM4.20 for 2 big bottles that can only lasts for 1.5 days. Mak said, the water 'here' doesn't taste the same. I couldn't have agree more. Hmm... shouldn't an audit be done at each state on water quality or its composition whatever?

Nek

On Sunday morning, Nek asked for the phone. Well, not verbally, she pointed at the phone..err not the phone, the wall clock actually. She pointed at the wall clock. Mak somehow knew she meant the phone. Probably because the numbers are bigger and easier for her to recognise. Anyway, we placed the clock in front of her and she pressed 261XXXX, it was my uncle’s phone number. Wow! She remembers after all! And to see her able to coordinate her fingers is simply Syukran.

And I swear, Nek smiled when Naim shaked hands with her.

Cold Storage

I was in a big freezer for the past two days for training. ‘Freezer’ because I was shivering, clenching my teeth throughout the sessions. Even my nails turned blue, fingers went numb. Blackheads yang keras tu pun bley jadik lembik. I could hardly hear what Mr James Roth was blabbering about. I didn’t take down notes for fear of freezing my hands. They said the room temperature was 20C, bugger! The air-cond in my office is either 27C or 26C and THAT’s the lowest I could tolerate.

At times like this, I wish those fats in my prosperous tummy and thighs are spreaded evenly, ya know.

Kiter dan Nafsu (Syaitan?)

Posted by rotidua at 10:10 PM on October 18, 2005.

Kiter sendiri.

Kiter sendiri. Berdekah-dekah agaknya syaitan ketawakan kiter.

Come What May

Posted by rotidua at 11:01 AM on October 24, 2005.

Ramadhan really is a month of testing, huh?

1. Najwa

Suddenly decides that our main door is perfect for mural. Orange Borange crayon on white wooden door.

Emotionally attached with a boy from school. So soon?!  I feel like writing to the boy's parents (or was it my anak dara that started it?).

The returned of Fussy Eater. (And not afraid to say that Ibu's cook is 'tak sedap'). Of all things, she slurps a bowl of curry that comes together with murtabak.

+ point: She's eager to learn Muqaddam, and quick to memorise too.

2. Naim

Developes craze for sharp objects like scissor, knife, peeler, ruler (pun jadik!). Dangerous, i know! But sometimes he is quicker than me and bibik.

He nips papers, he slices Kakak's eraser, he grates kuih batang buruk (on the carpet!), he chops off crayons and more crayons.

Refused to shampoo. (Avoid sniffing his hair, please)

Yesterday, he couldn't have enough of Peel Fresh-Mango. Today he said "Im nanak, tak shedap la"

+ point: Reacts positively to "Tidy-O, tidy-O".

3. Handphone cum alarm clock

The bl**dy phobe now only vibrates. No sound, nothing! It goes "gggrrrr...ggggrrrrr". (Mimi, care for a swap?)

+ point: None. Nil. Nothing.

Aaah well....

Perutnya Tumpah

Posted by rotidua at 01:17 AM on October 27, 2005.

Sejak kebelakangan ni, teringat kat Arwah Nek Long terutama sekali waktu (nak tidur) selepas sahur. Lepas makan perut rasa sendat dan terik masa baring. Nak baring camana serba tak kena tapi kiter nak jugak tidur. Dulu Nek Long pernah pesan pasal cara-cara tidur (yang kiter tak ikut pun).

Nek Long tak lepas mengonyel sirih tapi kalau tak silap Nek Long berhenti mengonyel tahun-tahun terakhir hayat Nek Long. Wallahuwaalam.

Paling suka masuk rumah Nek Long (sebelum dirobohkan) bila waktu siang panas sebab ade pantulan cahaya keemasan. Mana datangnya? Dari berbotol-botol minyak masak cantik tersusun atas para. Rupanya orang dulu-dulu ambil iktibar dari zaman perang waktu kekurangan makanan. Setiap rumah akan simpan satu barang keperluan/ruji. Kalau terjadilah sekali lagi darurat, orang kampung Insya Allah cukup makanan. Rancangan ni, orang zaman kiter kata 'Disaster Recovery Plan'.   Oh, Nek kiter pulak simpan berbalang-balang gula. Tak bersemut pun, i tell you.

Arwah Nek Long pernah bagi syarahan panjang pada kiter dulu. Agaknya lepas dia tengok kiter tidur terbongkang depan t.v kot. Meh kiter kongsi apa yang dia ajar:

1. Orang pompuan (dah beranak lebih lagi) kalau nak tidur, biar mengiring. Tapi jangan mengiring saja, perut mesti beralas. Ambil tuala atau kain batik, gulung lepas tu sendalkan perut. Jangan biar perut tu TUMPAH. Lepas beranak, perut kan 'berlebih' kalau tumpah, nanti bertambahlah lebihan pastu kulit perut pun kendur. Peranakan/rahim pun kemas, kata Arwah.

Tak sure lak kalau orang lelaki yang ade excess boleh guna pakai cara ni.

2. Kalau nak tidur telentang pun, alas bawah lutut dengan bantal. Kalau tak cukup bantal, kaki bersilang supaya tak 'renggang'. Atau bengkokkan rapat kaki (macam nak meneran waktu beranak tu) pastu sendal kiri kanan dengan bantal. Jangan sampai ada momentum kaki waktu nak terlelap tu. Cara ni, boleh sengkakkan peranakkan.

3. Waktu tidur, kaki mesti bertutup, mesti panas. Jangan biar lemau kena angin. Paling bagus kalau pakai stokin. Nanti bila berumur, lutut tak mudah bisa-bisa.

4. Minum air, jangan berdiri. Nanti licin - tak kesat . Kalau nak jugak minum berdiri, ibu jari kaki kanan mesti pijak ibu jari kaki kiri (or was it the other way around?).

5. Kurangkan minum air berais, takut nanti kembang - tak mencengkam, another

6. Jangan biar rambut kering atas kepala.

Jangan basuh muka macam orang menggelupur. "Tak berbentuk muka tu nanti".

Lagi, tak ingat la (or sajer tak nak bagitau).
