2 weeks of school orientation didn't really help, aye?

Posted by rotidua at 09:50 PM on January 2, 2006.

He refused to get up from the bed. He did not want to brush his teeth. He sobbed while putting on his loosely S-size school uniform. He kept asking why Ibu and Abah MUST go to work. He didn't have breakfast, even purposely dropped his Chewies tablet.

He was okay in the car. He seemed fine when Ibu took off his shoe. Then he realised he will not be seated in the same class as Kakak. That's when he started throwing tantrum.

He bawled. He wailed. He screamed on top of his lung. "Im nak ame Atak", "Im nak Ibuuu". Only his voice. Teachers tried to console him. He shrugged of all Ibu's advises. Think happy thoughts.

Ibu left her 4 year old baby. Unknown to him, Ibu was outside the classroom cursing herself for being a bad Ibu. It breaks Ibu's heart to hear him. Ibu wants to run to him and take him away from this horrible atrocious unjust world. Ibu wants to hug him and tell him he is safe. Is education THAT important?

Meanwhile, Abah said Kakak was also crying. "Where is Naim?". A big sister, she is.

Abah took over. Naim had no chance at all. Not with Abah.

When we left the school, Naim was still crying. He's going to be fine, I know. He was okay during the 2 weeks orientation last December (but that was because he has Kakak by his side). He just want to be with familiar faces. He needs Kakak that's all.

Wouldn't it be much easier if they were born in the same year?

Note to self: 2 in 1, next!

Batu Simbang, anyone?

Posted by rotidua at 10:16 PM on January 15, 2006.

ok ok I hear you people. Life has been pretty much the same for the past week. Nothing interesting to update, really. I get to sleep with my husband every night (nyeh nyeh) and unlike Didi I don't have reason for my ever growing belly.

Actually I was hoping that Firhad would update, I guess he's been busy working *rolled eyes*. Well, it's better to be 'busy' working than lazing around with no work, right?

As for Naim, he didn't cry anymore (yaaayyy!). Everyday he counts the day to Saturday because "Saturday kiter tak school, kan?" But then, aren't we all? Last week he held Najwa's hand during morning assembly. He refused to line up together with his classmates but that was last week. This morning, he was at the front with all his classmates behind him (probably because he's the smallest, who cares! I got full view of my chirpy son while he was dancing to the music) Occasionally he sucks his thumb, hmm...takpe la.

One new teacher named Teacher Karmen (like Carmen Electra, the name not the body) is really fond of Naim. I think she looks very much like Mimi, except she has long hair and she wears skirt mostly.

Any of you played 'batu simbang' or 'batu seremban' before? No? Tipu! Its a game that uses 7 or 5 stones. Stones are thrown onto the ground and picked up in specific order by the player. The player who least fumbled and accumulate most points is judged the winner. Its a combination of motor skill, balancing and maths, as you add up and times the points.

I used to play batu simbang with my siblings and cousins when I was small. Bang De usually bagged the champion title. Duh! Last weekend my niece, Alyssa Shaheera brought 5 small sacks filled with barley or some beans la (to replace the stones) to play batu simbang. She was struggling to catch each sacks thrown. Her brother, Imran Haikal didn't even pass Batu Satu.

Chek Na just had to show her skill.

..until Batu Empat.

How do we do Batu Lima? 5 sacks inside one hand, throw one into the air, leave the four on the floor then quickly grab the first sack thrown. Then what?

How do we end Batu Lima? Even Bang De forgets. My mom too. Firhad.... hopeless! (I thought being surrrounded with 4 sisters he must've been dragged to play along or curious enough to join them. Unless they never actually played batu simbang!)

Hmm.. I think I'm gonna show the kids 'teng teng' next, boleh pergi Haji!

If..

Every morning, ready for school, the kids would tune in to the Playhouse Disney Channel while waiting for us to get ready (usually ibu, abah siap cepat). And every morning, they (the network, not the kids) would have the segment for the birthdays. And yesterday, they (the kids, not the network) sang me the Birthday song along with the TV.

If today is your birthday, there's so much things for you to do,

If today is your birthday, here's a birthday cake for you,

Happy birthday..happy birthday to you!!

Or something along that line...well, my birthday started pretty normally, until my Office Manager leaked it out to everybody. By lunchtime, everybody knew about it, got a cake for me, sang, took pictures..the usual stuff.

In the afternoon, Najwa called me from home (she got the maid to dial my number) asking when will my birthday start. A bit confused, I replied it has started already, she wished me in the morning no? When she repeated the question a few times more, it dawned on me that she wanted the birthday 'Event'. With cake and candle blowing and singing and the works. Always one who would not celebrate anything if the need doesn't call for one, I haven't got anything planned for home. So I promised her I'll buy her a cake.

Later in the evening, she called again to remind me about the cake.

Rotidua, on the other hand, took me out for a Japanese dinner and paid for it(just a perfunctory gesture anyway, I know where the money came from) It was really really nice. Truly. Wanna make me happy? bring me to a japanese restaurant. Or buy me a huge tub of wasabi.

While watching the football match (or soccer to the person from Washington, did the Seahawks made the playoffs?) I wondered about the reason why a company that was supposedly losing billions for the past 5 years would still go ahead making glossy TV commercials and become a major sponsor for the half time show?

I mean, usually, IF a conglomerate is losing money, and are undertaking a major cost sating exercise, the biggest cut would be felt in the A&P and Marketing Department. Budget for promos and what not would usually would be cut by half.

Unless they are really really good at their job and managed to get the advertising agency to work next to nothing, the TV Commercials (not to mention the Media Plans) would cost a few mil. At least.

Here's another morsel for you to ponder on. It's a bit tricky presenting this to you lest I could be branded a 'rebel' or the content could be labeled as seditious.

If your enforcement are caught with their pants down (figuratively of course) doing something that they should not do. And worse, doing it to a foreigner (does not matter if the foreigner works using the lowest form of denominator), wouldn't it be easier to present a fall guy (or in this case, girl/woman) in order to save your country the billions of revenue generated by the said foreigners' countrymen that came to your country every year?

Better to damage certain bodies reputation (not that it was great to start with anyway) rather than cripple another industry. One that has been the major money spinner for the country no?

Closer to home, much much closer, a furore was put out by some viewers of local TV about some TV Shows that encourages people to participate in a certain quiz show via SMS. Then some powers that be proclaimed that it was against a certain religion and that those kind of shows should be banned from even airing. It even got tabled in the Parliament or Dewan rakyat I think.

Now, this is the crux of the matter. The basis of the view from, aha, viewers, are because the participants need to pay money (something like RM2 or RM3 per SMS) in order to win the prize (usually cash around RM250 to RM10,000). It does not involves skill at all and it is all based on luck that you were picked to be the winner. So that constitutes as gambling.

So, what we have here is that if you pay some money to enter a competition, then the winner won because of luck, it constitute as gambling?

What if I tell you that the above scenario is not for the TV show, but for a fishing competition? The basic competition rules are exactly the same:

You have to pay to enter the competition, if you want to enter more fishing rods, you have to pay extra (RM40 per extra rod). More rods means the higher chances of you getting that huge fish no? And it is by luck you would get the big fish no? It is by luck you chose a spot where just by luck the big fish is swimming by and by luck, the big fish bite your bait no?

Why not extrapolate further? You want to set up a restaurant. People tells you that the most important thing in this line of business is location. So you look for a good location. Could it be called luck if you get a high traffic spot with the kind of budget (lease or rent or bought)  that you have? So you have to put money first no? You would not know for sure if people would like the restaurant or not no? It is again by luck. So if you are lucky, you would only be in the red in the first year.

But what if those above does not matter at all?

Yang Berbahagia

Yesterday, my immediate boss was conferred with Datuk Setia Diraja Kedah (DSDK) which carries the title Dato'. Officially, we should address him as 'YBhg Dato'. From the usual 'Nchek' we must now call him Dato'.

Weeiiirrddd.

Does the transformation necessary? What else will change? I believe those with title must maintain a certain (minimum) standard way of life. Office in a skyrise building or lunch at 4-5 star hotels instead of Sari Ratu, perhaps? 2 bini maybe?

=============

oh...hopeless...here's the news (from NST 24JAN06)

KUCHING, SARAWAK, Mon.He promised a 12-year-old girl excellent exam results if she used his special oil and kept a breast-shaped stone that belonged to him.

To obtain these items, the girl had sex with Nuang Layong, 48, a school guard.

Although Nuang managed to persuade the Year Six girl of SK Gawang Empili, Simunjan, about his special remedy, he failed to persuade Sessions Court judge Supang Liang to give him a lighter sentence.

Nuang, who is serving sentence for an earlier rape case, pleaded guilty to raping the 12-year-old today.

In mitigation, Nuang said he was an "old man" and had a family to care for. He also requested that his jail term run concurrently with the 15 years’ jail and two strokes of rotan sentence for the rape he committed in 2001.

"You are not an old man. You should have thought of your family before you committed such an act. Looking at your previous conviction for the same offence, I cannot be merciful ," Supang said.

She then sentenced Nuang to 15 years in jail and ordered the sentence to run consecutively.

She also ordered Nuang to be given two strokes of the rotan.

Married with four children, Nuang, of Kampung Empili, Semunjan was hired as a guard at SK Gawang Empili on Nov 1, 2003.

According to the facts of the case, Nuang kept bottles of a "special" oil and a small white breast-shaped stone. He apparently told girls that if they rubbed the oil all over their body and kept the stone safely, they would become smart and score high marks in examinations.

Convinced, the 12-year-old contacted Nuang’s son, Zarry, 11, who was schooling with her, to arrange for a meeting with his father.

At 10pm on Aug 26, 2004, Nuang told Zarry to bring the girl to a toilet so he could "turn her into a clever girl".

The girl, who was staying at the school dormitory then, had sex with Nuang in the toilet. She was given the oil and stone.

Zarry later took the girl back to the hostel and Nuang returned to the guard house.

On Nov 17, 2004, SK Gawang Empili headmaster Wan Rajiee Tuanku Esim took Nuang to the Simunjan police station and lodged a report after finding out about the incident.

The girl was sent to the Simunjan hospital on Nov 22, 2004 for a medical examination.

Medical officer Dr Siti Khadijah Ahmad Tajuddin confirmed that the girl’s hymen had a tear.

In the earlier case, Nuang had sex with an 11-year-old girl from another school on March 12, 2001 after promising her the oil and stone.

He was released on bail pending trial when he committed the second offence.

He pleaded guilty to the first offence on Jan 27 last year, and was sentenced to 15 years’ jail and ordered to be given two strokes of the rotan.
