Seeking Utopia

Posted by rotidua at 03:36 AM on February 14, 2006.

Rumours that a major upheaval in the cabinet line-up is making its rounds lately. Although not much of a political observer, I have great hope that Pak Lah would actually pick the 'best man for the job'*

Hopefully, the person that Pak Lah would pick does have some understanding of the position that he/she is filling. It is just frustrating to wade through some of the smoke and mirrors that some ministers put up when trying to give light on a certain problems. We, at least for me, had enough of the 'We will look into the matter / I have no knowledge of that matter / Let the police do their job first' etc. etc. comments.

And if they do reply, it is filled with enough hot air to blow up two Hindenburgs. They're either skipping gingerly around the issue, or touched upon it, but not getting to the crux of the matter.

It is a long shot, but hopefully, the ministers wouldat least have some credentials in their respective posts. Thus, the Information Minister would have some backround in TV production or something; the Finance Minister is a former Bank Negara Governor etc. etc.

Although an aristarchy government is virtually impossible to set up, the idea of it is quite irresistable. With it, we are assured that a matter would be headed by a qualified or experienced people. The Minister would know in depth about the subject of the matter thus would be able to make the correct or best decisions. The least an informed one.

But then, Plato did envisioned the aristarchy government in his quest to seek his utopia, so I guess we would still end up nowhere.

Guess by now, you and a million or so other Malaysians has seen the line up. Yes, i tend to agree with your hope that ministers would need to have some credentials in respect of their portfolios. But in reality, that's a non event. If that be the case, what credentials would the PM has to make it to the highest office.

On the other hand, we had a doctor holding that post before.

The Ministry is being run & managed by competent civil servants headed by their respective DGs, Ketua Pengarah & the like.

What i would strongly hope for is to have aa honest, dedicated, intelligent, trustworthy person to become a Minister.

yeah yeah i know.......dream on...!
